Learn Hierarchies in SQL server using HierarchyID

23:28
Hierarchy ID is nothing other then column which represent relational value in numeric format on which DFS (Depth First Search) & BFS (Breadth First Search) can be used The concept is very simple, when we have to make relational structures which shows parent child level tree hierarchy, we can use hierarchyid datatype. With hierarchy ID recursive queries can be converted into range query. DFS (Depth First Search) and BFS (Breadth First Search) can be implemented using additional index which improves performance. Uses .NET assembly library defined methods to provide easy maintenance. Hierarchy ID is scalar column and is sequence of no. of var binary values. How to use MS Excel to create or modify Oracle EBS Purchase Order Lines?

13:33
Starting with Oracle EBS release 12.2.4 users may use Microsoft Excel (WebADI) functionality to create or modify Purchase Order Lines, Schedules and Distributions. This information is from Oracle Procurement Releases 12.1 and 12.2 (inclusive of 12.0.2 – 12.0.7) document version 5.1 published on July 28, 2014. At the PO Header level users can create or update lines, schedules and distributions in Excel and import these additions into the document. This feature may also be used at the line, schedule, pay item and distribution levels. In this video I'm demonstrating how to use Microsoft Excel (Office 365) to create a new line for an existing Purchase Order (PO) and also to change price and quantity for existing PO lines. This option is accessible only under Buyer Work Center (BWC) - Purchasing responsibility for all PO levels - header, lines, schedules and distributions. Based on the level you access "Update with Excel" option a different Excel template will be downloaded and displayed fields will be specific to each level (line, schedule, distribution). For this demonstration I have used the E-Business Suite 12.2.4 VM Virtual Appliances provided by Oracle Software Delivery Cloud (https://edelivery.oracle.com/linux) For other interesting tips go to http://oracle-ebs-hands-on.blogspot.com

SQLPLUS: LineSize & PageSize

03:49
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to set linesize and pagesize . PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

Mike Palmeter - Oracle Next Generation Engineered Systems Launch - theCUBE

21:38
Mike Palmeter, Oracle, at Oracle Next Generation Engineered Systems Launch with John Furrier and Dave Vellante @theCUBE #datacenter Oracle customers are looking for ways to “divest themselves of tech responsibilities,” said Mike Palmeter, Senior Director of Product Engineering at Oracle. They want to go up the stack instead of focusing their efforts on low-level infrastructure in order to differentiate, he explained. Oracle is supporting their customers’ efforts by providing engineered systems fine-tuned to business needs. “Customers’ concerns are changing,” Palmeter detailed, noting they’re increasingly concentrated on “data models, implementing business logic, and understanding their users, rather than figuring out how to use a cluster or build large-scale data management services.” More than ever, it appears that customers are willing to hand over the more technical reins to Oracle. According to Palmeter, this shift in customer preferences led Oracle to change their own approach. The multinational tech company honed in on solving engineering challenges, designing microprocessors, and refining database and middleware. It’s a question of building “the right tool for the job,”Palmeter said, explaining that if customers are “running infrastructure at a large scale, they need a reliable platform, but they don’t need to care about which chip is underneath.” When all the components are right, customers can approach an Oracle platform like a turnkey system: secure, stable, and accessible. That security, said Palmeter, is key. It’s an area of primary concentration for Oracle. In a world where the data center is “inside out” on the cloud, Palmeter says that Solaris and Spark’s long standing tradition of security “plays a big role in the success of supercluster.” In fact, Palmeter highlighted how pleased he is with Solaris. Beyond its security benefits, Palmeter said that “Solaris has unique performance optimization capabilities that enable Oracle to optimize for high-value workloads.” Oracle, Palmeter explained, is ushering in a new era, one in which an operating system is no longer thought of as “running on the server” but as “something that runs the datacenter.” Oracle customers, he said, will have access to infrastructure when necessary, but will be shielded from the underlying complexity.

Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database

10:18
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. 13 of 13 - Oracle APEX 5 - Views with one-sided and full outer joins; make pages public

21:25
A new series for APEX 18.1 is available. https://youtu.be/vXkNH3ktdaI This is one in a series of videos about creating an application using Oracle APEX 5. In this video we create a view that uses one-sided outer joins to show ALL records from one table and any related records from other tables. We use a full outer join to to show ALL records in both tables. (By default, when you join 2 tables you only see records that are related between the two tables.) Next, we modify the main navigation menu. Last, we make some pages public so no login is required to view these pages. SQL scripts for this series are available to download at: http://db.kreie.net
