Often data contains a parent-child relationship between rows in the same table. For example, company org charts and family trees. You can use the power of SQL to traverse these hierarchical relationships. There are two ways to do this in Oracle Database: - Connect By - Recursive With Watch this video to learn about data trees and find out how these work! Part 2 SQL query to get organization hierarchy

10:14
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-2-sql-query-to-get-organization.html To get the best out of this video, the following concepts need to be understood first. These are already discussed in SQL Server Tutorial. 1. Self-Join - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnYSN_7qwgg 2. CTE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXB5b-7HJHk 3. Recursive CTE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGoV0wTMCg0 Here is the problem definition: 1. Employees table contains the following columns a) EmployeeId, b) EmployeeName c) ManagerId 2. If an EmployeeId is passed, the query should list down the entire organization hierarchy i.e who is the manager of the EmployeeId passed and who is managers manager and so on till full hierarchy is listed. For example, Scenario 1: If we pass David's EmployeeId to the query, then it should display the organization hierarchy starting from David. Scenario 2: If we pass Lara's EmployeeId to the query, then it should display the organization hierarchy starting from Lara. We will be Employees table for this demo. SQL to create and populate Employees table with test data Create table Employees ( EmployeeID int primary key identity, EmployeeName nvarchar(50), ManagerID int foreign key references Employees(EmployeeID) ) GO Insert into Employees values ('John', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Tom', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Lara', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Simon', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('David', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Stacy', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Sam', NULL) GO Update Employees Set ManagerID = 8 Where EmployeeName IN ('Mark', 'Steve', 'Lara') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 2 Where EmployeeName IN ('Stacy', 'Simon') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 3 Where EmployeeName IN ('Tom') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 5 Where EmployeeName IN ('John', 'Sam') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 4 Where EmployeeName IN ('David') GO Here is the SQL that does the job Declare @ID int ; Set @ID = 7; WITH EmployeeCTE AS ( Select EmployeeId, EmployeeName, ManagerID From Employees Where EmployeeId = @ID UNION ALL Select Employees.EmployeeId , Employees.EmployeeName, Employees.ManagerID From Employees JOIN EmployeeCTE ON Employees.EmployeeId = EmployeeCTE.ManagerID ) Select E1.EmployeeName, ISNULL(E2.EmployeeName, 'No Boss') as ManagerName From EmployeeCTE E1 LEFT Join EmployeeCTE E2 ON E1.ManagerID = E2.EmployeeId

Foreign key represent a link or say a relationship between columns of tables. Similar to primary key constraint Foreign Key constraint is also of two types. Simple Foreign key constraint and Composite Foreign key constraint. Constraint which involves only one column in foreign key in child table and one column in reference key in parent table is called Simple Foreign Key. While the constraint which involves more than one column in foreign key in child table and more than one column in reference key in the parent table is called Composite Foreign Key.

Primavera P6 Export To Excel And Color WBS Levels Automatically || How To Color WBS Levels

04:36
Primavera P6 Export To Excel And Color WBS Levels Automatically || How To Color WBS Levels In this tutorial, let us learn how to Color WBS levels after Primavera P6 Export To Excel. After exporting activity table from Primavera P6 to Excel, it’s very hard to tell which activity belong to which WBS. So in this tutorial, let us see how to color WBS levels automatically so we can have report like in Primavera P6. This is my sample schedule in primavera, 1. I press Ctrl+A to select entire data and copy the data and then go to Excel sheet and paste it. 2. Add a column left to Activity Id i.e column A and name it as WBS level to show the WBS level for each activity. 3. enter the formula in Cell A2 as = =((FIND(TRIM(B2),B2))-1)/2 4. Hit enter and then apply the same formula to all the cells in column A to see WBS level for each activity. 5. See now, you can view the WBS level for each activity this way easily in Excel after exporting the Primavera P6 Schedule. And Now let us color the WBS levels. 1. Select the entire Data range. 2. Go to Conditional Formatting and click on New Rule 3. Select Use a formula to determine which cells to format option 4. Type the formula as =and($A1=0,$C1="") (keep the dollar symbol on left side to both the cells). we are adding the Cell C1 reference so as to avoid coloring of the activity level, though the WBS level is being reflected for activities. 5. Select a color for WBS Level 0 Say blue color. Click OK. Click OK again. 6. Now, all those WBS Levels 0 will have the Blue color. 7. Similarly create rules for other WBS Level: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5..... In this way, finally you will be generating a colorful report alike Primavera P6 Schedule. Building a Real-Time Streaming Platform with Oracle, Apache Kafka, and KSQL

41:35
One of the main use-cases for Apache Kafka is the building of reliable and flexible data pipelines. Part of Apache Kafka, Kafka Connect enables the integration of data from multiple sources, including Oracle, Hadoop, S3 and Elasticsearch. Building on Kafka's Streams API, KSQL from Confluent enables stream processing and data Transformations using a SQL-like language. This presentation will briefly recap the purpose of Kafka, and then dive into Kafka Connect with practical examples of data pipelines that can be built with it. We'll explore two options for data transformation and processing: Pluggable Single-Message Transformations and the newly-announced KSQL for powerful query-based stream processing. GWEN SHAPIRA Solutions Architect Confluent Gwen is a principal data architect at Confluent helping customers achieve success with their Apache Kafka implementation. She has 15 years of experience working with code and customers to build scalable data architectures, integrating relational and big data technologies. She currently specializes in building real-time reliable data processing pipelines using Apache Kafka. Gwen is an author of “Kafka - the Definitive Guide”, "Hadoop Application Architectures", and a frequent presenter at industry conferences. Gwen is also a committer on the Apache Kafka and Apache Sqoop projects. When Gwen isn't coding or building data pipelines, you can find her pedaling on her bike exploring the roads and trails of California, and beyond.

Oracle SQL Tutorial 16 - Parent Child Relationships

06:09
So far in this series we have discussed database design, creating tables, and constraints. We've brought up the concept of foreign keys, but we have not explained how to create them. That is the goal of this video and the upcoming videos. We want to study those foreign keys! Let's make them not so foreign. Let's learn the proper way to define a foreign key. As a reminder, a foreign key is a column that references a column of another table. The column it references must either be a primary key, or have the UNIQUE constraint. This means that every value inside of the column that is labeled as a foreign key, there must be that value in some row of the referenced column. As an example, imagine that we have the users table, and we have a table service_requests. We could have a column in the service_request that references a column in the users table. Usually this would be the primary key that is referenced, but there is nothing stopping you from referencing a unique column. Just for fun, let's go through an example using the username column. If we have a service_requests table, every single row within the table is going to be what some would consider an instance of a service_request. This means that the table columns are like the blueprint for what a service request looks like and then each row is an individual service request. If we have one of the columns labeled as a foreign key to the username of the users table, what does that mean practically? It means that for a single row, the value for that column must be a value that exists in the users table. We could have a service_request submitted by a user with the username of Yoloswagman. This means that there must be a row inside of the users table that has the value Yoloswagman for the username column. This brings up the concept of parent and child relationships. Yoloswagman in this situation is the parent, and his service request is the child. When we draw it out, it makes sense why a primary key must be UNIQUE. If we had two Yoloswagmans, the child would not know which column is the parent. The same applies if we were using IDs and we had So remember, always reference a primary key or a column with the UNIQUE constraint. Now, I have a question for you. Do foreign keys automatically have the UNIQUE constraint, just like primary keys? The answer is no. A parent row can have many child rows. It makes sense because the user could submit multiple service requests. Can we force the column to be unique? Absolutely. If that was the case, the user could only make one service request. Another question. Do foreign keys automatically have the NOT NULL constraint, just like primary keys? The answer is no. Essentially what this means is that a child could be created with no parent. Can we force the column to be NOT NULL? Absolutely. It is ok in some situations to allow the row to be null, but in this situation it makes no sense. It would be wise for us to add that constraint ourselves. So now that you understand some more differences between primary and foreign keys and parent child relationships, take all of these questions into consideration when you are creating foreign keys. In the next video, we are going to start a small project that is going to require multiple tables. We'll take a video to design our structure and then we'll get to creating those foreign keys in Oracle SQL Developer. This is a toggle in the application settings where you can decide between exporting out all objects, which is the current default and it includes smart-less detail. Now you're able to hit NO on this setting which means that your automated backups will contain a complete backup with data but excluding smart forms. The reason this is coming about is Oracle decided they're seeing that when you're exporting all data and having to also include smart list text detail within that, they weren't quite hitting their hour window for backups so now that gives you the option to either continue which means that back up might take a little longer than expected. When you export everything including smart list detail then you can incrementally import back in piece by piece as you normally would with your LCM from the environment selecting no means that you're only able to bring in the same set of objects as are exported meeting you won't have that smart list detailing you won't have the ability to incrementally import back into the environment before specific objects. Something to keep in mind here if you have smart lists in your environment and you're seeing that your back up is taking longer than expected. This is an option to expedite that process if need be.
