The amount of mods that increase the cities size shows they really should have been bigger in base. I know some will say its a design decision, but these cities were way bigger in earlier games. I feel skyrim should have represented that a little better IMO.
I see PS4 has a patch to combine this mod with Jk's all in one but when will that patch be available for xbox??? combining this mod for the cities it covers and then JK's all in one mod to cover Whiterun (which is incredible) markarth, Riften, and windhelm etc. then Kato's Riverwood and Kato's Ivarstead. Besto combo, I found kato's can over ride jk's with zero problems. no crashes in or around those 2 towns. but we really need the JK's Great cities compatible patch, on xbox!!!
I like the expansion of towns (especially for Winterhold) but the game "feels" older than the middle/late medieval look. This game has so much of a early Norse feel to it I have a hard time even seeing it as a ES game. I'd like to see less massive stonework and high vaulted buildings and more wooden palisades with smaller structures. Solitude is the only place that needs to have the appearance of "starting" to enter into the mid medieval era. Balgruuf just needs a very nice longhouse, not something that looks like a mid era cathedral. Just the area and assets they used to make Dragonsreach could have filled the town out a LOT more.
Dragonsreach is also ten times bigger on the inside as it is on the outside. Instead of putting assets into making things look huge and grandiose they should have just used more realistic housing and added lots more population. The average house ought to be about the size of the alchemists shack with maybe a tacked on room if they have kids. There need to be more kids running around too. There was more breeding just in the hopes that a few actually survived to adulthood back in the day.
I really like those mods that change the appearance of the settlements, but of course they will overlap with other more useful mods, such as AI mod. of course there will be a patch, but it is not clear when it will come, especially for mods that have long been left behind and there are no updates.
does this mod add more NPCs as well or at least expand on where the existing NPCs roam? cuz i could totally see loading this mod up and seeing an NPC constantly walking into a wall that wasn't there in vanilla, thinking it was a pathway
Damn, I like this. I always felt like Dawnstar, Falkreath, and Winterhold needed a little more love. Mortal I always felt was fine, it was in a swamp, there’s not really much that would be done with that in real life, but the others all had value and should have been fleshed out more. Especially winterhold, like damn, it was always unimpressive, it didn’t look like a grand city that had been destroyed, it looked like a village on a cliff
Holy crap dude.... these videos still pulling in close to 200K views. Mad props to Brodual.
But also, let's give Skyrim a little credit. Most of the comments are people talking about the garbage that it is vanilla, but I mean, here we are, still wanting to play the game 8 f'n years later... just with improvements. But there's gotta be a lot right with the core of the game in order to survive that long still with such a big following.
Personally, I loved the original game, and mods just kept increasing the longevity.
Couldnt agree more.. although bethesda could have put in more effort in some aspects, skyrim came out a LONG time ago, and already using a flawed engine. And it still manages to captivate us to this day, vanilla or not. Also, making mods isnt a solution to every problem, as many seem to believe here, some are just undoable
Dude some of this looks great. I like what they did to Winterhold. But if you want a fun mod to check. Expanded Solitude is great. I love the idea of a dock town. I now enjoy shopping trips from the Dragon born Museum.
I've heard your voice over the years narrating all of these Skyrim videos, & I never thought to mention how utterly familiar your voice sounded.
Then it hit me! You sound exactly like "Peter" from The Chronicles of Narnia, the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe!
Matter of fact, if you used all of your mods to portray a Narnia based Machinima, you'd not only be spot on convincing, but I'm sure the special or short, would do very well!
Idk if you've considered voice acting, but you should!
hey brodual is there a upload scedual that you follow or do you just upload whenever i know you have used such scedual in the past i just had to ask just coming back from a break off skyrim btw love this mod makes falkreth look dope af
I'm usually not one to use the comments to suggest something, but I would love to see Brodual cover VIGILANT, it's an highly acclaimed quest mod with a reportedly well, written plot. You'll need an English patch, since it's originally Japanese. (Which would explain it's quality.) I'm just starting to do the quest myself, and so far it's pretty good as far as I can tell. The dub is pretty hit or miss though, in case you're picky about voice acting.
This is what these cities should have looked like in the original game. Winterhold was the biggest disappointment. It was just a couple of shops and houses. Not even worth visiting if you we'rent a mage. I always felt like all of the capital cities should have looked like Solitude.
i would Really love if they would team up with the creator of the JK city overhauls to REALLY flesh out the city and even work on the insides... and maybe even include hidden stuff and make it Sneak friendly so you can get threw the city in a more out of site manor making playing as say a thief or Assassin really gives you a different vibe than playing a normal iron clad character.
All the cities in oblivion had amazing sizes.
The “capital cities” in Skyrim were nothing more than struggling villages.
Whiterun has like 20 people. I remember Kvatch having more character than any other place in Skyrim and that place was burned to shit.
Edit: I’m not a hater either. I absolutely love Skyrim. Which is why I am disappointed with the size of towns and cities in this game.
I'm pretty sure the Oblivion cities did not have more characters than the ones in Skyrim, maybe apart from the Imperial City? Both Anvil and Whiterun for example had about 70 characters. But yeah I agree that the settlements are still kinda sad and empty.
I have a request if possible I would like to play a Redguard (I have installed Imperious installed - thank you for the link) I am looking for all mods (SSE) geared toward them at Oisin McPhillips says I am currently lost in the darkness that is Nexus
Also can anyone point out good mods to use on the remaining holds until this mod is complete
I've always thought that Winterhold was so pitiful that it didn't even deserve to be called a Hold Capital nor hosting a jarl. Glad to see people want to take care of this cute little town !
Btw, the idea just went through my mind, but it could be super interesting to use such mods to add a town improvement system (like in Assassin's Creed 2 for Monteriggioni).
This game is such a pice of shit. Literally in every sense. I mean you want a mod for cities and gates because there are non in vanilla game. I get it. Now look at cities and villages in Daggerfall! Look at cities in Arena! THAT'S what cities should look like. Bigger places have walls and gates, yea, but only when they are big enough. Skyrim is a bad joke. So now you have a mod that makes its pathetic little shanty towns (3-4 houses are not even a village) walled...nice! Now all that you need is actual town/village and its complete...lousy combat, simplistic magic, no rpg elements whatsoever, not even attributes and classes let alone choices & consequences...and people still play this shit. The only mod that could make me play Skyrim again is Bruma. Probably because of nostalgic factor and esthetics more that anything else...
I want these cities to be worthy of their titles, petty villages and tiny towns do not make for great cities. If you're gonna go for cities being in different cells than make those cities bigger and better (they did this in oblivion, why not in Skyrim, a question that plagued me after the initial awe of the game wore off). Thank god for mods, and this one looks really good, maybe not the biggest city overhaul, but it's no slacker either.
This mod was really interesting at first, but firstly I really noticed just how much they relied on walls to do the restructuring, but they put walls in places where it doesn't even make sense like on the edge of a cliff, and the walls they make don't respect practical or historical medieval walls with decorative machicolations and poorly designed gatehouses. For a mod that doesn't do much more than adding walls and bridges, they really didn't do much research on either.
Lore nitpicks aside, the navmesh seems to be nonexistent or poorly made, meaning when I installed this mod I encountered lots of issues of NPCs getting stuck walking into walls. Another huge issue I had was that some of the loading positions were not changed, from vanilla, meaning one time I left a building that was elevated by the mod, and I appeared underneath the balcony instead of at the door of the building when loading the overworld. At that point, I had to uninstall, which was a couple months ago so perhaps some of these glaring issues have been patched.
My review is that this mod does make Skyrim cities and towns look less pathetic (which isn't hard to do) but suffers from both technical and realism issues and it isn't a mod I would personally recommend. Talking more generally about the game, it's really annoying how Skyrim was so scaled down. The "Cities" are so small they barely classify under the scope of a small village, more people lived in a single castle than the number of people that live in Whiterun. If Elder Scrolls 6 isn't much more ambitious than Skyrim I'm sure most people will be disappointed.
Now, make a series like "Racial Mods" where you would review 3-5 mods for each race. It would be cool. Each episode could have a unique name. A khajiit episode could be called: "Khajiit Has Mods, If You Have Enough Memory Space".
It's just an idea.
